Chapter Five

Max’s Dream

When Max, Ben and Grace walked into Gran’s kitchen smells of smoked ham and rich brownies wafted out to greet them. It had been a long day but here now in this kitchen everything felt alright again.  Their landing back on earth had been a little rougher than they would have liked and Ben had grazed his knee and his shoulder ached a bit from the fall, but it didn’t seem quite so bad here in the kitchen, wrapped in the wonders of Gran’s cooking.

Grace loved the inside of the house and it always took her a little by surprise. Inside the large doorway the hall opened out and showed how truly massive the place was. The first time she walked in she expected it to be decorated in a kind of old lady style, like her great-aunt Mrs DeLahunte would have done. All flower paintings and images of holy icons dotted about.  But this was very different.  On the left hung a painting of a giant leaping tiger and to the right a huge tapestry of an Asian looking peace tree.    You just knew standing here that the rest of the place would be filled with amazing stuff.
